Have Fun - Drink ACT!

The best ways to cut out pop and energy drinks?

Posted by admin

I don’t drink a lot of pop, but lately I have been having these cravings for pop and Energy drinks. I was thinking for the month of October that I wouldn’t drink pop and energy drinks and see how that goes because for one that is just a lot of sugar to have. Do you think that is a good thing to try or should I try something else? I was going to drink milk and water.

[Try to slowly wean yourself off of it. If you just quit drinking soda and caffeinated energy drinks, you will have horrible caffeine withdrawl. ACTLightning.com energy sells a healthy energy drink without caffeine - you can enjoy it without crashing, and it lasts for 5-6 hours! The Aspartame in diet pops can be habit forming, but the ACT drink provides a great alternative, and makes it easy to get off the cola train.]

As a recovering pop junkie I have some advice…

DO NOT try and quit cold turkey! You will get massive withdrawal headaches and may even get sick.

There are several approaches that you could try…

If you have good will power you can try and limit yourself to a certain amount of pop a day (tell yourself you are going to have “x” number of cans a day). Say you are going to have 4 cans a day for one week. Then, the next week try 3 a day, then the next week try 2 a day, then the next week try 1 a day, and then slowly start spacing the interval out on the 1 a day into 1 every 2 days, 1 every 3 days, etc. This can take some time, but it SLOWLY weans it out of your system.

Another method involves the diet version of your drink of choice. Say you are drinking regular Dr. Pepper…Try mixing Diet Dr. Pepper into your regular Dr. Pepper slowly. Start by pouring 3/4 of a glass of Dr. Pepper and adding 1/4 a glass of Diet Dr. Pepper. Eventually over a few weeks, you will end up replacing the Dr. Pepper with Diet Dr. Pepper. While, the diet versions of soda are really not that much better than the regular versions, you can still get your “soda fix”.

Yet another method involves diluting your favorite soda over time with water. Much like the Regular/Diet method, you will end up completely diluting your regular soda with water. Water is much healthier than soda and will be a good choice.

Finally, don’t cut soda/energy drinks out of your system completely, it will be very hard. Right now, I can go a whole week without a soda. Because of that, I “reward” myself once a week with a Dr. Pepper or Coke. I don’t crave the soda as much, and I don’t get the headaches either.

My easy answer…cut back on cokes, and replace them with something else, like tea, then drink more water, gradually cut back on your sugar and caffeine intake. Kill the energy drinks totally. Try using half-caff coffee for awhile.

Do not go cold turkey on caffeine, go slowly, you might get sick otherwise.

Have you tried drinking black or green teas? They can give you a pretty good kick and theyre much better for you of course. Try either, shaken with ice and a little Splenda! Also, I would try cutting back slowly…like subtracting 1 a week then 2 and then to the point where you are drinking none. But try the tea!
